More than 40 LGBTQ community members and allies from the Rio Grande Valley traveled to Austin, Texas, on Tuesday, March 7 to testify against SB6, the bill that aims to criminalize trans individuals from using public facilities that match their gender identity.

Locally, democratic State Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr. has come out in support of SB6, defying his party’s strong opposition to the bill and the many calls from his constituents asking him to stand against SB6. A rally known as #956vsSB6 was also held in Pharr, Texas, within Sen. Lucio’s district, on Sunday, March 5 to urge him to vote against the bill.
