Mother’s Day is coming up, and we’ve got you covered. We’ve gathered six different ways you can celebrate your mom, step-mom, older sibling, grandmother, or any mother figure. We included events before and during Mother’s Day to celebrate all week.

Pre-Mother’s Day (before Sunday)

1. Free Mother’s Day Portrait drawings!

2. Thursday Storytime – We Love Mom!

Date: Thursday, May 10 at 11 AM

Event description: Join us for storytime! We’ll celebrate mom and make a special craft for her! The craft activity is suitable for ages 3 – 5; however, all ages are welcome!

3. Mother’s Day Class

4. Free Mother’s Day Zumba Class

Date: Saturday, May 12 at 9 AM

Mother’s Day (Sunday)

5. MOM Animal Play Day

 Date: Sunday, May 13 at 9 AM – 3:30 PM

Location: Gladys Porter Zoo, 500 Ringgold St, Brownsville, Texas 78520

Event description: “M.O.M. stands for Missing Orangutan Mothers. Mother’s Day is the perfect day to celebrate and pay tribute to orangutan mothers. The orangutans’ rainforest home is literally being wiped out to make way for oil palm plantations— leaving hundreds of helpless orangutans with nowhere to go.
The MOM Campaign is a positive way to bring attention to the crisis facing these beautiful red apes by encouraging people to help protect them.

This Mother’s Day staff from all departments across the zoo will come together to offer enrichment activities and treats to our very own Orangutan mother and daughter. Schedule will follow times below:

Information and activity tables will be located under the palapa between our Orangutan Island and Nilgai exhibit from 9am-3:30pm. This event is free with the purchase of paid general admission or Zoo membership.”

10. Mother’s Day Free Family Yoga
