1. June 23 – July 17 – Fast and Prayer Chain

12 PM – 1 PM

Archer Park

Event description:

“Sign up for the fast directly at Archer Park on 101 N Main St, McAllen, TX 78501 everyday at 12 PM!

Or visit www.BreakBreadNotFamilies.org to sign up locally or remotely.

La Union del Pueblo Entero (LUPE), Texas Civil Rights Project (TCRP) and Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights will protest everyday until July 17, 2018 bad policies that hurt the immigrant community of the Rio Grande Valley through a 24-hour hunger strike and prayer chain that will last 24 days, in honor of the more than 2,400 children separated from their parents.

Fasting as a means of nonviolent protest is a historic tool utilized by Cesar Chavez, the founder of La Union del Pueblo Entero, in resistance to the injustice faced by farm workers of Mexican descent. Cesar’s commitment to nonviolent protest, including his fasts, won the support and friendship of Robert F. Kennedy to the farm worker cause. Cesar knew that the most crucial step was to receive support from high ranking politicians.
