1. July 31 – Abolish ICE National Day of Action

9 AM – 5 PM

Event description:

“In the last month, hundreds of thousands of people have risen up in outrage at the stories of mothers and fathers separated from their children, internment camps for immigrant families fleeing violence and seeking asylum. We have seen the cruelty of ICE, the institution that carries out unjust anti-immigrant policies and persecutes parents for daring to dream of giving their children a better life.

We cannot wait for the White House and Congress to act. On July 31, we are taking action to #AbolishICE by targeting the institutions ICE relies on to function day in and day out.

**Mayors, local police departments, and county commissioners allow ICE to use local jails to detain families.
**Private tech companies develop their surveillance technology.
**Airlines that deport people away from their families.
**Schools, DMVs and hospitals that share confidential records with ICE to persecute undocumented people.

It is our moral duty to refuse to be complicit with ICE’s deportation machine at every level and demand that the institutions we are part of do the same! #WeWontBeComplicit

5. August 4 – Unfinished Chicano Business Vol. 2

12 PM – 3 PM

Rio Grande Valley

Event description:

“Last year 20 musicians came together to make the Valley’s first compilation of resistance music. This year Unfinished Chicano Business Vol. 2 will be the first compilation album of resistance poetry from Valley poets. The Trump era is going strong, families are being separated, kids and being traumatized and people are dying. What do you have to say about it?

I’m calling on all Valley poets, nepantleras, mc’s and wordsmiths to step up and speak your truth to power. I’m offering to record anyone who wants to participate but I’ll take any recording of your work. You can record yourself on your phone or computer it doesn’t matter, the important thing is what you have to say.

I’d like to get this out on July 4th to mark the anniversary of Vol. 1 but I want to make sure I get everyone who wants to speak on here so I’ll let that determine the completion date. Spread the word. Tell your friends. Recite new poems, old poems, English or Spanish. This is an intersectional work, it doesn’t have to be about immigration or politics specifically just your voice lifting the marginalized or ignored. If you’ve never written a poem before this is the perfect time to start. If you don’t live in the Valley anymore but want to contribute please do. The mic is open.

2 Poems or 5ish minutes max each poet (flexible)

The album will be released via Bandcamp when complete. You can check out last years comp here (ufcb.bandcamp.com).”
